Health Organizes Quality Management and Patient Safety Workshop
21/6/2023The Ministry of Health (MOH) represented by the Directorate General of Quality Assurance Center held today (Wednesday) a specialized workshop on quality management and patient safety with the presence of Dr. Qamra Al Sariri, Director General of Quality Assurance Center at Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque.
The event targeted personnel of quality management and patient safety departments, in addition to patient safety’s focal points at Directorates General of Health Services and hospitals across various Governorates.
The workshop aimed at providing participants with knowledge and concepts about tools and principles of quality and patient safety, as well as the necessary skills required to achieve quality standards and systems and measure performance indicators. It was further aiming at identifying the standards of the Omani accreditation system, spreading the culture of patient safety, and the mechanism for documenting clinical policies and guidelines.
During the day, eight themes were covered. Two themes introduced the concept of quality management by identifying the tools and principles of quality. Specifications of the international quality management system ISO 9001/2015 was highlighted in addition to the performance indicators management and analysis.
Moreover, the workshop addressed the importance of patient safety and risk management as an integrated system in health care. Participants were also trained on methods of preparing audit reports and were informed about the significance of the Incidents Reporting and Learning System (Aman) in reporting adverse medical incidents at health institutions and the role of the system in improving the quality of the various health services.
The workshop focused at the end on the Oman National Healthcare Accreditation System (ONHAS) and the national accreditation standards, its development process, in addition to procedures needed to implement the system at the health institutions.
