Quality Management and Patient Safety at Private Health Institutions Highlighted

The Ministry of Health (MOH) represented by the Directorate General of Quality Assurance Center, in collaboration with the Directorate General Private Health Establishments, organized today (Thursday) a workshop on quality management and patient safety at Oman International Hospital
The event targeted supervisors and personnel of quality management and patient safety departments working at the private health institutions across the various Governorates.
At the beginning of the workshop, Dr. Qamra Al Sariri, Director General of Quality Assurance Center gave a lecture highlighting the Center’s competences and the provided services.
The workshop covered eight themes. Two themes introduced the concept of quality management by identifying the tools and principles of quality. Specifications of the international quality management system ISO 9001/2015 was highlighted in addition to the performance indicators management and analysis.
Moreover, the workshop addressed the importance of patient safety and risk management as an integrated system in health care and introduced the participant to the Patient Safety Friendly Hospital Initiative (PSFHI) and standards, in addition to its importance in establishing the principle of safety of service in health institutions, as well as evaluating patient safety in hospitals by using framed scientific standards. The significance of the Incidents Reporting and Learning System (Aman) in reporting adverse medical incidents at health institutions and the role of the system in improving the quality of the various health services were also covered.
The workshop focused at the end on the Oman National Healthcare Accreditation System (ONHAS) and the national accreditation standards, its development process, in addition to procedures needed to implement the system at the health institutions.
