The Ministry of Health (MOH), represented by the Department of Non-Communicable Diseases, has been designated as the World Health Organization (WHO) collaborating center for research and training in the area of chronic respiratory diseases.

This comes as a result of the Ministry’s role, and in cooperation with its partners, namely the Oman Respiratory Society, in integrating the management of the most common chronic respiratory diseases at the level of primary healthcare and integrating the services at all levels of care.

The Ministry of Health has enhanced and developed health services for patients with chronic respiratory diseases at all levels of health care. It has also established 161 asthma clinics at the primary health care level and continues to provide a wide range of medications of different doses and devices. In addition, the Ministry of Health has invested in training and building the capacity of pharmacists, doctors and nurses to ensure optimal healthcare delivery to patients.

The WHO Collaborating Centers are distinguished global institutions that work to support and promote the goals of the World Health Organization in a variety of health fields.

This recognition gives the Ministry a unique opportunity to actively participate in addressing chronic respiratory diseases at the global level.

This center will support the region and countries around the world in developing and improving health services for patients with the most common chronic respiratory diseases such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

It is worth mentioning that this Center is the third collaborating center with the World Health Organization in the Sultanate of Oman, where the Ministry of Health is a collaborating center with the World Health Organization in the area of patient safety and in the area of emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases.
