The first Gulf Diabetic Foot conference organized by the Gulf Diabetic Foot working group in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, Non-Communicable Control Diseases Department began today at Al-Bustan Palace Hotel.
The two-day conference was held under the patronage of H.E. Sayyed Sultan bin Ya’rub al-Busaidi, Advisor of the Ministry of Health for Health Affairs, with participation of foot specialists and diabetic foot nurses from the GCC countries.
Exchanging experiences and information on diabetic foot, viewing the latest developments and techniques in this field, enhancing patient’s health, focusing on health investment and protecting childhood from diabetes and obesity are the most important aims of the conference.
Dr. Saud al-Harthy, Consultant Endocrinologist and conference chair said in his welcoming speech: “Diabetes has emerged as a major and growing health problem in all over the World. In 2014, the IDF has estimated that about 387 million people in the World are affected with this chronic disease, and this number is going to increase to 590 million people in 2035”.
The agenda of the conference included a number of scientific lectures like; role of the dialectologist in management of diabetic foot, healing and preventing the diabetic foot wound, imaging diabetic rheumatis, imaging diabetic neuropathy and developing an education and competency framework for management of diabetic foot disease…etc.
