29th RCC Meeting Reviews Polio Eradication

Twenty-ninth meeting of the Eastern Mediterranean Regional Committee for Certification of Poliomyelitis Eradication (RCC) has begun today ( Sunday) at the Grand Hurmuz Hotel. The Meeting, which was organized by World Health Organization (WHO) was under the auspices of H.E. Dr. Ahmed Mohammed Al Saidi, Minister of Health with the WHO Representative in the Sultanate and the Chairman of the RCC presence.

After welcoming of the participants, H.E. Dr. Al Saidi pointed out in his speech to the Sultanates financial support in the global efforts to eradicate Poliomyelitis. He emphasized that the Virus crosses the boarders without any obstructions despite the epidemiological surveillance at the borders areas.

The three-day meeting will review the annual updates presented by the polio-free countries to determine the remained gaps in the poliovirus detection and interruption plans and recommend the necessary corrections. In addition, the meeting will identify the recent situation at countries affected by poliovirus. Advancement made in the Certification of Poliomyelitis Eradication regionally as well as forming the recommendations for countries and regions.
