In a special ceremony held today Wednesday at the National Cardiac Center Auditorium, H.E. Dr. Ahmed Mohammad Al Saidi, Minister of Health received officially the ISO Certificate that  the Royal Hospital (RH) Laboratory Medicine and Pathology has achieved recently, making it among the first accredited in the region by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS).

The awarding ceremony was attended by H.E. Jonathan Wilks, the UK Ambassador to the Sultanate, Paul Stennett, UKAS Chief Executive,  Lord Jamie Lindsay, the UKAS Chairman, and top officials from the MOH and UKAS.

The ceremony came to mark the RH Laboratory Medicine and Pathology achievement that reflects the major role played by the Ministry of Health (MOH) in supporting the RH to pursue and accomplish the ISO 15189 Accreditation to demonstrate the quality and reliability of its medical services. This international accreditation (ISO 15189 ) specifies requirements for quality and competence in medical laboratories which are prepared by the International Organization for Standardization.

Achieving ISO Accreditation, as stated by Dr. Qasim Al Salmi, RH Director General proofs the Laboratory’s technical competence, and improves key performance indicators. Furthermore, Client survey showed a remarkable improvement in terms of test repertoire, reliability and responsiveness.
