Health Minister Meets Undersecretaries of Concerned Authorities

H.E. Dr. Ahmed bin Mohammed al-Saidi, Minister of Health chaired on Sunday an emergency meeting with the undersecretaries of the concerned ministries to brief them on the latest developments of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19).

The Minister reviewed the current local and global epidemiological situation of the disease.

Dr. Saif bin Salim Al-Abri, Director-General of Diseases Surveillance and Control reviewed the risk and spreading of the diseases in the world along with the number of infected cases registered in the Sultanate. In addition, Al-Abri highlighted the coordination and monitoring process with the other sectors in the Sultanate, as well as the diagnosis mechanisms for the persons who have contacted the confirmed cases and following-up the quarantined cases.   

The meeting discussed the future procedures that need to be taken according to the epidemiological situation of the disease and the preparedness of the concerned ministries and other sectors in their respective sphere such as the schools, events and activities.

Previously, the Ministry of Health had announced the registration of (16) COVID-19 cases travel-related to Iran and Italy, two of which have been totally recovered.

MOH in cooperation with the other concerned sectors is proceeding a number of preventive measures in the points of entry (air, sea and land) by screening the travelers coming from the endemic countries. Self-declaration form is distributing to the travelers coming through different points of entry, that containing information about the date of travel and respiratory symptoms, as well as the health check-up for those coming from the endemic countries whether directly or transiting in these countries within 14-day from the date of their arrival. Furthermore, the arrivals passengers suspected of being infected with this disease are being referred to the health institutions for the laboratory examination and receiving the required healthcare service taking into account all the infection control procedures.  

MOH urges all quarantined persons to adhere to the quarantine instructions to protect their family and community from this disease and keep on washing hands by water and soap, avoid touching face, mouth and eyes by dirty hands and stick to healthy habits when coughing and sneezing.
