Under the theme ‘Smart, Innovative & Effective Specialized Care’, the Specialized Hospitals and Centers Forum, organized by the Ministry of Health represented by the Directorate General of Specialized Medical Care was inaugurated today (Thursday) at the Grand Millennium hotel.

The event was held under the auspices of H.E. Dr. Hilal bin Ali Al Sabti, Minister of Health, with the presence of HE Dr.  Fatima Mohammed Al Ajmi, MOH’s Undersecretary for Administrative, Financial, and Planning Affairs and HE. Dr. Jean Jabbour, WHO Representative in Oman, in addition to number of MOH senior officials.

Dr. Saeed Al Lamki, Director General of Primary Health Care and Acting Director General of Specialized Medical Care delivered a word where he stated that the second edition of the forum highlights the role of the hospitals in upgrading efficiency of healthcare provision across the Sultanate’s Governorates. He pointed out that the core theme of this forum addresses hospitals initiatives by integration of modern technology that have had a positive impact on improving the specialized medical services with the aim of reducing  outpatient clinics and surgeries waiting list.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                               

Dr. Al Lamki commended the DGSMC endeavor in enhancing quality in hospitals that can be traced in regulating the distribution of Omani medical staff in governorates hospitals, organizing the recruitment and training in tertiary care hospitals, not to mention being an active member in the hospitals’ board of directors.

He added that the DG is carrying out visits to hospitals to identify each needs and challenges.  

The event further presented the achievements of the Directorate General of Specialized Medical Care.

A number of four initiatives were displayed at the forum provided as convenience, which were namely the electronic archiving-Rustaq Hopital, food waste- Ibri hospital, immediate consultations- Khoula hospital, and the implementation of medical laboratories assessment- Specialized Care. A working paper on the digital transformation in the health sector was later presented by a company.

At the end, the patron of the event honored the best initiatives including the best hospitals in Accidents and Emergency services 2019 for the Emergency department that were hospitals of Sohar, Jalan Bani Bu Ali, and Haima. The best initiatives that were presented in the forum were also honored.

The forum included an exhibition that showcased innovations from hospitals, especially with regard to digital transformation. The General Directorate of Information Technology presented the virtual clinic service in coordination with the General Directorate of the Royal Hospital, in which four other initiatives were also displayed on the screens.
