Under the theme"Safe and effective medicines for all” the health institutions of the Sultanate celebrated the World Pharmacists Day, which falls on September 25 annually.
In 2009, the International Federation of Pharmacists (FIP) designated September 25 to be celebrated as the World Pharmacists Day. The FIP called upon all national societies of pharmacists who are in official relationship with the World Health Organization to celebrate this day in order to raise public awareness and encourage organizing activities that would promote the role of the pharmacist in improving health care.
Celebration of the World Pharmacists Day is highlighting the profession of pharmacy and pharmacist, who serves patients from all health aspects to ensure getting the therapeutic usefulness and the optimal use of medicine in cooperation with all medical staff.
The theme for 2019 aims to promote pharmacists’ crucial role in safeguarding patient safety through improving medicines use and reducing medication errors.
“Pharmacists use their broad knowledge and unique expertise to ensure that people get the best from their medicines. We ensure access to medicines and their appropriate use, improve adherence, coordinate care transitions and so much more. Today, more than ever, pharmacists are charged with the responsibility to ensure that when a patient uses a medicine, it will not cause harm”, says FIP President Dominique Jordan.
The Ministry of Health (MOH), represented by the Directorate General of Medical Supplies attaches great importance to the pharmacy profession, where the pharmacists play a vital role in the health care system in providing the integrated medical care.
