International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 201423/6/2014
Under the theme of "Your Life is Valuable, Do Not Throw It", the Sultanate, represented by the Executive Office of the National Committee for Drugs and Psychotropic Substances, has celebrated with the other world countries the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking 2014. The celebration was held under the patronage of Sayyid Suleiman bin Mahmoud Al Busaidi, Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Ministers, at Crowne Plaza Muscat.
The programme was aimed at highlighting the efforts being taking by the committee to battle and prevent addiction. According to the Central Registry of MOH, there has been an increase in the number of the registered drug addicts in the Sultanate. The number was 4150 until the end of 2013, a rise of 215 cases from 2012. Furthermore, it has been recorded that, the number of deaths from drug addiction during 2008 to 2013 was 138, averaging at 23 cases a year.
