Within the scope of promoting the competencies of medical and allied medical cadre in the field of cardiac care, the Royal Hospital (RH) represented by the National Heart Centre (NHC) took part in the Congenital and Structural Interventions (CSI) conference Dubai, United Arab Emirates by demonstrating two complex live cases. The surgeries, carried out by the NHC team, included a 4-year-old girl and the other was a 32-year-old man both with congenital heart diseases.

Commenting of this event, Dr. Salim Al-Maskari, Director of National Heart Center stated that this is the first time that complex congenital interventions are beamed live to the rest of the world from Muscat. Last year, a similar adult cardiology interventional program was transmitted live to Milan, Italy. This highlights the technical capability of Oman in this frontier area of medical care.

CSI-Dubai is a forum that showcases the advances in catheter based treatment of congenital and valve diseases of the heart thus this distinguished participation affects positively on the services delivered to cardiovascular patients in the Sultanate.
