The Sultanate has received the Champion Prize of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) that the Ministry of Health (MOH) represented by the Directorate General of Information Technology (DGIT)was recently awarded under the eHealth Portal Category.

The MOH’s Director General of IT Abdullah Humood Al Raqadi received the prize in a ceremony held at Geneva, Switzerland amid a vast attendance of high-ranking Omani officials.

Al Raqadi expressed his appreciation upon this national outstanding achievement and declared that the Ministry had earlier won this prize as the first place for Al Shifa project. This year witnessed 345 nominated projects which saw over 1.1 million votes.

Notably, the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) is a unique two-phase United Nations (UN) summit that was initiated in order to create an evolving multi- stakeholder platform aimed at addressing the issues raised by information and communication technologies (ICTs) through a structured and inclusive approach at the national, regional and international levels.

It should be noted that the Ministry of Health’s eHealth portal is the result of the collaborative efforts between the MOH and the Information Technology Authority (ITA) that lays within the digital transition strategy for e-government. It delivers more than 114 e-services that are targeted to all community categories including patients, citizens, residents, employees, government, and private companies.
