A training workshop on Ideal Registration for Death Certification for the hospital physicians and health management information staff (HMIs) inaugurated today (Monday) at Muscat Holiday Hotel under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Sultan bin Ya'rub Al-Busaidi, Advisor of Ministry of Health (MOH) for Health Affairs along with the presence of H.E. Dr. Ali bin Talib Al-Hinai, MOH Undersecretary for Planning Affairs.  

The four-day workshop is organized by Ministry of Health (MOH), represented by the Data & Statistics Department and Health Data Recording & Management Department in the Directorate General of Planning & Studies in cooperation with the World Health Organization (WHO).

The training workshop aims at improving quality of cause of death information, improving death certificate quality through, medical certifier training and support, training the health workers (the certifiers) in completing the medical certificate of the cause of death according to the international standards, and training the health management information staff and coders on the selection of underlying the cause of death according to a set of selection rules.In addition, the workshop also intended to enhance the health management information staff capacity and expertise to support continued evaluation and improvement in the cause of death reporting, as well as identifying opportunities and challenges to improve quality of death registration data.A number of MOH Directors Generals and more than 50 medical staff from the MOH hospitals, the Sultan Qaboos University Hospital, and private hospitals along with 20 health management information staff are attending the workshop.
