National Ophthalmology Conference Kicked Off

In conjunction with World Sight Day, which falls the second week of October each year, Ibri Hospital, represented by the Eye Department organized on Saturday the National Ophthalmology Conference 2019 under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Mohammed bin Saif Al-Hosni, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health (MOH) for Health Affairs at the Applied Sciences College of Ibri. 

 The Conference, which organized in cooperation with the MOH Non-communicable Diseases Department, Oman Medical Specialties Board (OMSB) and Eye Health National Program, gathered about 200 ophthalmologists, optometrists along with the ophthalmology specialists from the government and private health sectors.

The Conference touched upon the latest developments of ophthalmology, improve the services of eye patients, as well as review the modern methods of how to deal with the injuries and the treatment.

The National Conference highlighted several related issues including the epidemiology and management of keratoconus, corneal transplantation, diabetic retinopathy, primary eye care assessment, retinoscopy and others.

The Sultanate of Oman is one of the countries that have made achievements on the elimination of most of communicable diseases such as trachoma, which causes many complications like dry eyes, eyelids diseases and cornea. Last year, it has been announced that the Sultanate is free of trachoma.

Dr. Abdul Rahman bin Rashid Al-Abri, Ophthalmology specialist in Ibri Hospital and Head of the Scientific Committee of the conference stated that: "the National Ophthalmology Conference is an annual conference organized under the system of the National Ophthalmology Development Committee of the Ministry of Health. The Eye Department in Ibri Hospital organized this conference to shed the light on the most common eye diseases in Al-Dhahira Governorate".

This Conference is part of the World Sight Day celebrations, which came in this year under the theme "Vision First".
