The Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization (WHO) signed yesterday evening (Sunday) the Joint Government/WHO Operational Work plan for the years 2016-2017. H.E. Dr. Ahmed Mohammed al Saidi, Minister of Health, signed the Work plan for the Ministry while H.E. Dr. A’la Alwan, EMRO Regional Director signed the Work plan for the WHO.
The technical cooperation programme for the next two years focuses on 10 priority areas in the health sector, for which WHO would contribute in providing technical support through national capacity-building, counselling and the provision of data and information. These areas includes control of non-communicable diseases and mental health, disabilities and rehabilitation, strategic health planning, human resource development, health service delivery, health information systems and emergency preparedness and response.
Dr Ala Alwan, WHO Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean expressed appreciation of Oman’s contribution to the global health agenda noting that the health related indicators as evidence of the country’s commitment to health. He also noted the exemplary collaboration between WHO and Ministry of Health.
Operational planning in WHO follows a two-year cycle. Planning for each cycle involves extensive discussions between the technical experts in the Ministry of Health and WHO to identify the priority activities within the 5 Year Health Development Plan for which WHO could provide the most significant technical support.
