Quality and Patient Safety Department
The Quality and Patient Safety Department is responsible for enhancing healthcare quality and ensuring the delivery of safe, effective, and patient-centered services through the implementation of national and international standards, performance monitoring, risk management, incident investigation, promotion of a patient safety culture, and continuous quality improvement to achieve institutional excellence and improve patient satisfaction. The department oversees document control by developing, updating, approving, and managing policies, procedures, guidelines, forms, and records in compliance with quality and accreditation requirements. It identifies, assesses, and monitors clinical, operational, and organizational risks, develops mitigation plans, and evaluates risk indicators. The department manages the incident reporting system, investigates adverse events and near misses using root cause analysis, and follows up on corrective and preventive actions. It also measures and analyzes key performance indicators, monitors performance dashboards, identifies improvement opportunities, and supports data-driven decision-making. In addition, the department evaluates patient satisfaction, manages complaints and feedback, and implements initiatives that enhance the patient experience. It promotes a culture of patient safety across the hospital, monitors patient safety indicators, and implements national and international safety initiatives. Furthermore, the department oversees the implementation of the Oman Healthcare Accreditation Standards (OHAS), coordinates compliance across all hospital departments, manages continuous improvement plans, conducts internal and external accreditation assessments, prepares the required reports, and fosters a culture of quality and institutional excellence.

Since the launch of the blessed renaissance in the Sultanate of Oman during the reign of the late and beloved Sultan Qaboos bin Said bin Taimur - may God rest his soul - the wise government has given light attention to the health sector, which is not only one of the basic pillars of development, but also to the establishment of integrated and comprehensive health care for residents in the various governorates of the Sultanate. This blessed approach has continued during the reign of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al Said – may God protect and preserve him – as the health sector is witnessing further development and modernization in line with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040, enhancing the quality and efficiency of health services, and raising the level of specialized medical care provided to beneficiaries. As part of these ongoing national efforts, the state of Sohar has received great attention through the establishment of Sohar Hospital as one of the largest reference health institutions in the North Al Batinah Governorate, located in the Muwailih area near the industrial city, and providing its health services to the residents of the governorate and neighboring governorates. Over the past years, the hospital has witnessed successive expansions that have contributed to enhancing its operational capabilities and increasing its capacity. The hospital’s current bed capacity is 825 beds, including 460 inpatient beds, in addition to several medical and specialized units and departments equipped with the latest medical technologies. The hospital offers a comprehensive package of specialized and referral medical services, including laser endoscopy and lithotripsy of urinary tract stones, obesity surgeries, endoscopic and joint replacement surgeries, cardiac and cerebral catheterization, interventional radiology, diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopies of the digestive system and biliary tract, respiratory endoscopy, and many other specialized, advanced diagnostic and therapeutic services. The hospital also includes a select group of qualified medical, technical, nursing and administrative staff, who work around the clock to provide safe and high-quality health services, supported by continuous training and educational programs, scientific activities and development initiatives that contribute to raising the efficiency of health staff and promoting a culture of quality and patient safety, which positively reflects on the level of health care provided to the community. - Surgical Specialties:• The hospital's surgical specialties encompass a comprehensive range of diagnostic and therapeutic services, including Orthopedic Surgery, Plastic Surgery, Neurosurgery, ENT, Dentistry and Maxillofacial Surgery, Ophthalmology, General Surgery, Pediatric Surgery, Urology, Bariatric Surgery, and Vascular Surgery, providing specialized surgical care in accordance with the latest medical practices to meet the healthcare needs of patients across all age groups.

- Obstetrics & Gynecology Department:The Obstetrics and Gynecology Department at Sohar Hospital provides comprehensive women's healthcare, including antenatal care, normal and cesarean deliveries, postnatal care, diagnosis and treatment of gynecological conditions, high-risk pregnancy management, gynecological surgery, emergency care, and maternal health education. The department includes 8–10 specialty clinics, 60–70 beds, 8 delivery rooms, 2 operating rooms, and a multidisciplinary medical and nursing team.
- Pediatric Specialty:Comprehensive healthcare for children, including diagnosis, treatment, preventive care, and inpatient management.
- Critical Care &Anesthesia Departments:The hospital's Critical Care and Anesthesia Departments include the Adult Intensive Care Unit (ICU), Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), Coronary Care Unit (CCU), and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for the care of premature and critically ill newborns, in addition to the Department of Anesthesia, which provides anesthesia services and perioperative care before, during, and after surgical procedures.
