As part of the Oman’s ongoing digital transformation efforts and in line with strengthening public–private partnerships, the Ministry of Health signed today (Tuesday) a funding agreement with OQ Exploration and Production to support the Picture Archiving & Communication System initiative. The signing ceremony was held at the Ministry’s headquarters in the presence of H.E. Dr. Hilal bin Ali Al Sabti, Minister of Health.
The agreement, signed between the Ministry of Health represented by the Directorate General of Information Technology and Digital Health, and OQ Exploration and Production (OQEP), aims to fund the implementation of the Picture Archiving & Communication System (PACS) across ten referral hospitals in various governorates of Oman. The project seeks to advance digital health services and enhance the quality of healthcare delivery across the country.
The agreement was signed on behalf of the Ministry by H.E. Dr. Ahmed bin Salem Al Mandhari, Undersecretary for Health Planning and Regulation, while Eng. Mahmoud bin Abdullah Al Hashmi, Chief Executive Officer of OQEP, signed on behalf of the company.
The initiative forms part of the Ministry’s broader efforts to establish an integrated digital healthcare system. The PACS will enable physicians to electronically access patients’ radiology images from connected healthcare institutions, facilitating faster diagnosis, improving clinical decision-making accuracy, reducing the need for repeat examinations, and enhancing patient safety.
The project is further expected to strengthen interoperability among health systems, improve the efficiency of medical data exchange, and enhance the overall patient experience by reducing waiting times.
Both parties emphasized that the partnership represents a strong model of responsible collaboration between the public and private sectors in supporting sustainable digital health initiatives and fostering technological innovation in the healthcare sector. The agreement further reflects OQEP’s commitment to corporate social responsibility and its support for national projects aimed at developing Oman’s digital health infrastructure.
