The Ministry of Health represented by the Medical Response and Public Health Sector of the Emergency Management Center conducted today (Tuesday) a workshop on Risk Management in Healthcare Sector in Sultanate of Oman at Grand Hyatt Muscat.
The workshop was held under the patronage of H.E. Dr. Saeed Al Lamki, MOH’s Undersecretary for Health Affairs and chair of the health sector at the National Risk Register.

The workshop aimed to introduce participants to the mechanisms and methods for identifying and evaluating risks, and to learn about and benefit from some experiences in the field of risk management, and how to apply them at the level of the Ministry of Health and the health sector. It aimed at reviewing and re-evaluating risk cards and emphasizing the importance of risk management.
Discussion was made on event-based surveillance, risk management methodology in the health sector, and institutional risk management for the Ministry of Education. Moreover, health risk cards in the national risk registry, such as the human epidemics card, the vector-borne diseases card, the antibiotic-resistant bacteria card, and the animal and plant epidemics card were addressed in the event.
Notably, risk management is an integrated process comprising of negative risks reduction and positive opportunities and risks exploitation. It contributes to improving the performance of projects and activities and enhances the ability of healthcare institutions to adjust to the evolving challenges if implemented correctly.
