Under the slogan “Growing Up Healthy, Together,” the Women and Children’s Health Week activities kicked off today (Monday) in Al Buraimi Governorate. The event, organized by the Directorate General of Health Services in Al Buraimi, features a series of developmental programs focused on women’s and children’s health.
The opening ceremony, held at University of Buraimi, was patronized by H.E. Sayyid Hamad bin Ahmed Al Busaidi, Governor of Al Buraimi. The event was attended by several dignitaries, members of the municipal council, heads of civil and military government departments in the Governorate, and a number of guests and participants.
Women’s and Children’s health services delivered by the DGHS-Buraimi at the level of the Governorate were presented also at the opening ceremony.
The week’s activities include Al Buraimi Symposium on Women’s and Children’s Health, two events on Women’s and Children’s health, and Al Buraimi Women’s Health Conference. The activities target key segments of the community—especially women and children—as well as local health workers in Al Buraimi and specialists in the field.
During the opening, Dr. Ibrahim Al Shibli, Director General of Health Services in Al Buraimi, delivered a speech affirming that health is a top priority in the Vision 2040 framework, noting that the program for expanding health coverage leads the strategic initiatives, and that women’s and children’s health services—across their preventive, therapeutic, and rehabilitative dimensions—are central to this national direction. Their direct impact on building a healthy, cohesive, and sustainable society prompted the DG to organize this week as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance community health and improve the quality of health services across the Governorate.
The symposium, marking the first major event of the Women and Children’s Health Week, saw broad participation from medical and allied medical professionals from various Governorates of the Sultanate of Oman, with over (200) participants. Specialized lecturers from several Omani hospitals presented during the event.
The symposium featured a number of scientific lectures centered on two main themes: women’s health and children’s health. Topics included: “Your Child is a Trust: How Do We Protect Them from Abuse?”; “Newborn Screenings: A Healthy Start for a Safe Life”; “The 3-4 Year Checkup: A Small Step to Reassure You About Your Child’s Growth”; “Breast Cancer: Early Detection Saves Lives”; “The Safe Age: A New Stage in Better Health”; and “Postpartum: Natural Feelings or Depression?”
The symposium aimed to enhance health awareness among women and mothers about the importance of prevention and early disease detection, to empower them with health knowledge and skills, and to raise awareness about maternal and child mental health as well as the importance of family and social support.
Additional goals included promoting child health from pregnancy through early childhood, fostering a healthy environment for children, and building community partnerships between health institutions and relevant authorities—highlighting the role of society in supporting women’s and children’s health as a fundamental pillar of a healthy, sustainable community.
The Women and Children’s Health Week will resume tomorrow (Tuesday) with an exhibition featuring a number of booths on maternal and child health. The exhibition will further include a special section offering medical check-up evaluations and health consultations for visitors.
