In a moving display of community compassion and generosity, the national campaign promoting organ donation and surgical health "Life After Life" officially commenced on Thursday in Salalah.
The inauguration ceremony was held under the patronage of H.H. Sayyid Marwan bin Turki Al Said, Governor of Dhofar, and was attended by a distinguished gathering of dignitaries, officials, representatives from the health and academic sectors, and supporting partners from various state institutions.
During an official tour of the campaign's sections, set up at "Up Town" in Sahl Ateen, His Highness and the attendees reviewed the comprehensive awareness programs and themes offered by the initiative. The campaign officially opens its doors daily to citizens, residents, and visitors alike, from 4:00 PM to 10:00 PM, from August 6 to 10.
This national campaign exemplifies an outstanding model of academic-health partnership and integration. It is organized and implemented by medical students from Sultan Qaboos University, the National University of Science and Technology, and Dhofar University, with direct support and active participation from the Ministry of Health, the Royal Oman Police, the Military and Security Medical City Hospital, the University Medical City, Oman Transplantation Society, Oman Surgical Society, Oman Medical Specialty Board, Dhofar Municipality, and the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs. This collaborative effort ensures the delivery of precise, evidence-based medical and awareness content.
The campaign aims to bring about a qualitative shift in community awareness by transferring trusted medical knowledge and advisory support directly from academic halls and hospitals to the public, in one of Dhofar’s most prominent recreational and community destinations.
This edition builds on the continuous successes achieved by the campaign in previous editions across Oman’s various governorates. However, this year’s version stands out for its expanded network of participating entities and the diversity of interactive activities and events directed at the public. A distinguished group of doctors, consultants, specialists, and student cadres are delivering awareness messages, opening direct dialogue with visitors and correcting misconceptions about organ donation and surgical procedures.
The campaign’s activities are distributed across specialized sections, most notably the "Organ Donation Section," which highlights the humanitarian and medical dimensions of saving patients' lives and the mechanisms for officially registering donation wishes. The "Islamic Perspective Section," coordinated with the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs, clarifies religious rulings and legal guidelines. Other Sections cover fields such as cosmetic and reconstructive surgery, colorectal cancer, bariatric surgeries, dermatology, and mental health, alongside the "Road Safety and Injury Section," conducted in cooperation with the Royal Oman Police to reduce road accidents and enhance prevention.
To ensure the awareness message reaches all family members, the campaign has dedicated a wide space for the "Children’s Corner," which integrates health education with entertainment through drawing competitions, interactive activities, and hands-on games. This corner introduces children to simple concepts about proper nutrition, personal hygiene, time management between sleep and balanced screen use, as well as the importance of mandatory check-ups and vaccinations, instilling healthy habits from an early age.
This health campaign reinforces the idea that early health knowledge and responsible awareness decisions can make a difference and change the course of many lives. It affirms that the message of "Life After Life" transcends the boundaries of a seasonal event to become a sustainable community culture rooted in giving, prevention, and national partnership among all institutions and individuals.
